Common questions
The game keeps telling me to turn my phone.
Deliberate. On a phone SORTALIS plays in landscape: the table, the Charm rail and the HUD are one wide object.
Rotate the device, and check portrait lock is off. Tablets and desktops are unaffected.
There's no sound on my iPhone or iPad.
SORTALIS honours the ring/silent switch and mixes with your own audio. On silent, the game is silent. That is the usual cause.
Otherwise check OPTIONS → AUDIO: MASTER, MUSIC, SFX, MUTE EVERYTHING.
Where is my progress kept?
On your device only. No account, no cloud, no crossover.
- iPhone and iPad — inside the app. Delete it, lose the save.
- Browser — site data for playsortalis.com. Another browser, another save.
- Desktop — back up sortalis-profile.json beside the data folder.
How do I erase everything and start clean?
No wipe button inside the game. Erase it from outside; none of these asks twice:
- iPhone and iPad — delete the app and reinstall.
- Browser — clear site data for playsortalis.com.
- Desktop — quit, then delete ~/Library/Application Support/sortalis/, %APPDATA%\sortalis\ or ~/.config/sortalis/.
I want to abandon the run I'm in.
During a run: OPTIONS → DANGER ZONE → ABANDON RUN. Immediate, no confirmation, and the seed dies with it.
On the title screen there is no run, so the section is absent.
Motion, flashing and readability.
SORTALIS matches your system's Reduce Motion at launch. By hand, in OPTIONS:
- SCREEN SHAKE — a slider that reaches OFF.
- CRT SCANLINES — off for a flatter picture.
- FAST SCORING — halves the scoring animation.
- SHOW FARKLE RISK — the Farkle risk readout.
Controllers, keyboards and touch.
All three work. Gamepads are detected automatically and the prompts follow the pad you are holding.
Force the set with OPTIONS → INPUT → GAMEPAD GLYPHS. Rumble and haptics share one switch. Every binding prints under its button.
Something scored in a way I don't understand.
RUN INFO → SCORING lists every Pattern, its level, and the exact Points and Mult it pays right now.
Still wrong? Send the seed, the Stage and the Bout. A seed reproduces the position exactly.
What is in the browser version?
The demo: four Stages, two Bags, three Oaths, a slice of the catalog. Free, no account, at playsortalis.com/game.
The full game runs eight Stages, then Endless: 14 Bags, 8 Oaths, Challenge Mode, 92 Achievements. Saves are separate.
Does it need an internet connection?
No. The whole game ships inside the app — no login, no downloads. It works on a plane.
Three optional things use the network: gameplay telemetry, the feedback box (Cmd/Ctrl + K), and SHARE on the victory board.
Your data
No account, no ads, no third-party analytics, no in-app purchases. No personal information is collected.
Your run, unlocks, Achievements and settings are written to your own device and never uploaded.
Online, the game sends aggregate gameplay events — Stages reached, Bouts won, Farkles, what the Store offered — against a random device id. Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track stops it.
The feedback box sends what you typed; SHARE uploads one run's board to a /runs/ link. The privacy policy lists it all.

The game renders in 3D on a pixel grid, so it wants a GPU. A black rectangle where the table should be usually means hardware acceleration is switched off.
